Des bouts de racines de tomates croissant dans le milieu nutritif de White, furent inoculés par des larves de Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White). L'addition de produits chimiques à cette solution ne dérangea pas les rapports normaux d'hôte/parasite, tant que la croissance des racines fut maintenue. Toutefois, l'application de ces produits chimiques sur les tiges de tomate par des mèches en laine ou sur les feuilles empêcha soit partiellement (coumarine et 2 : 4 dichloro-anisole) soit totalement (hydrazide maleïque, fluoracetamide, fluoracetate de sodium) le développement des galles radiculaires. Au dosages effectifs tous ces produits chimiques se révélèrent phytotoxiques dans une certain mesure.
