Les auteurs n'ont observé aucune différence dans le développement des galles sur Gardenia causées par les nématodes des racines Meloidogyne incognita incognita et M. incognita acrita. Des cellules géantes, du xylème anormal, ainsi que de l'hypertrophie et de l'hyperplasie corticales et du stèle ont accompagné toutes les infections. Les cellules corticales de certaines racines infectées étaient pourvues d'un à plusieurs parois transversales minces. Au côté infecté de beaucoup de racines s'est développé des couches extérieures du cortex un tissus ressemblant à un périderme. Un épaississement irrégulier des parties des parois cellulaires fut parfois observé aux environs des cellules géantes renfermant des groupes de cellules parenchymateuses. Le développement de la galle causée par M. hapla était identique, mais les cellules corticales n'étaient que faiblement hypertrophiées et une grande production de racines secondaires fut observée.
