The author describes and figures Dolichodorus profundus n. sp. This new species was found in the sandy soil of a coconut plantation near Akodessewa (Togo) at a depth of 1 to 1.2 m (0.2 to 0.4 m above the soil water table) and never in the more superficial layers of the soil, whereas other plant-parasitic nematodes found in this type of soil are more prevalent in the upper layers. D. profundus n. sp. differs from the other species of the genus by not having more or less hemispherical lips but cushion-shaped lips separated from the body by a very broad and deep groove. In addition the cuticle, in the fore part of the body only, is marked by minute rectangular plates instead of plain annules. A particular structure of the excretory system, consisting in a very long uninucleate, left sub-ventral cell joined to the excretory duct, was observed both in Dolichodorus profundus n. sp. and D. heterocephalus Cobb, 1914.
