A new species of the genus Telotylenchus Siddiqi, 1960 is described, viz. T. ventralis, occurring in a cereal field in the Netherlands. Its chief distinguishing character is the peculiar ventral thickening of the cuticle just anterior to the vulva, followed by a contraction of the body. The genus Telotylenchus is regarded as most closely related to Tylenchorhynchus and for this reason the author is opposed to the separation of these two genera at the subfamily level and the inclusion of Telotylenchus with Preudhalenchus in a separate subfamily.
