Four varieties of oat and five of barley were tested for resistance to cereal root eelworm in infested soils obtained from various parts of Britain. Three of the oat varieties, Cc 4660 (tetraploid), Cc 4659 (diploid) and Cc 4658 (hexaploid), showed resistance to eelworm from six separate sites. Among the barleys tested, Cb 824 and Cb 916, were resistant to eelworm from seven different sources. Two varieties Cb 917 and Cb 918, clearly demonstrated that differences in pathogenicity exist between British populations of the cereal root eelworm.
