Experiments show that a 1/1000 dilution of "Nemafos" 0,0-diethyl 0-2 pyrazinyl phosphorothioate, injected into coconut roots can protect them against infection by the red-ring nematode Rhadinaphelenchus cocophilus (Cobb). Exposure to treatment for 6 days appears to be the minimum time required for protection. Protection was also obtained at distances of 1.5 m from the treatment point. Whether the treatment was continuous or only lasted for 7 days, protection was achieved and persisted for 9 weeks. It was also observed that six trees after one treatment and one subsequent exposure to severe infection, did not contract the disease, while six other trees similarly infected without treatment, showed typical symptoms within 9 to 20 weeks.
