The genus Helicotylenchus Steiner, 1945 is diagnosed; eighteen nominal species are redescribed; ten new synonyms and twenty new species are proposed. Helicotylenchus steueri (Stefanski, 1916) Sher, 1961; H. neoformis Siddiqi & Husain, 1964; and H. intermedius (Luc, 1960) Siddiqi & Husain, 1964 are excluded from the genus Helicotylenchus. A key to the species is presented.
