Soil and root samples from a native stand of yellow-poplar yielded Criconemoides axeste Fassuliotis & Williamson, 1959, and an undescribed representative of Criconemoides Taylor, 1936. The predominant species, C. grassator n. sp. differed from all the other representatives of the genus, except C. calvus Raski & Golden, 1965, in number of body annules (79) and in length of stylet (101 μ). The prominent head annule further serves to differentiate this species. The vulva is on the 11th to 14th annule from the terminus. It differs frcm C. calvus in body length, annulation, tail shape and character of the head.
