Population density, vertical distribution, seasonal fluctuation of Tylenchorhynchus spp. and injury caused by this genus to different crop plants were studied in the rotations and monocultures of crops on the farms of Botany and Agronomy Divisions, New Delhi. Tylenchorhynchus was abundant in all cropping sequences; monocultures supporting more than rotations. Numbers increased as crops grew and the rate of increase was greater in earlier than in later stages of plant growth. Numbers of Tylenchorhynchus were reduced by excess of moisture and drying out of the soil. There were more larvae than either females or males, especially 0-10 cm deep. Most adults were found in the 10-20 cm layer. Numbers showed two seasonal peaks, one during March-April and the other in October. Correlation coefficients calculated between yield of crops and log nematode density were negative and significant indicating that the genus was injurious to wheat, maize, cotton and sugarcane. After an initial decrease following harvest numbers did not decline during fallow.
