To assess the naturally occurring fluctuations in nematode population densities in a tropical climate nine sites on different soil types were sampled at monthly intervals. All sites were planted to sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) throughout the experiment. Significant differences in population density of two nematode species were demonstrated both between soil types and between time of sampling. The two nematode species also showed different correlations to the soil moisture content.
