If the relation between nematode density P and relative plant weighty is adequately described by the arbitrary equations y = m + (1 - m) z P-T for P T and y = 1 for P T (T = the tolerance limit, m = the relative minimum yield), then the relation between yield Y and P 1/2 is linear for values of z P-T between 0.2 and 0.95 (Y = a - b P 1/2). Tolerance limits then are T = a-b/ b × 0.16) 2 for z -T = 1.05 and T = (a-m/ b ×0.21) 2 for z -T = 1.1.a and b can be determined graphically and by calculation. The value of T is not strongly influenced by the variation of the estimated value of m (ratio of 1 to 2 for m between 0.4 and 0).
