Three culture media, namely yeast-extract glucose agar, yeast-extract glucose broth and supplemented nutrient broth were each supplemented with various aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic amino acids as well as various monosaccharide, disaccharide, and oligosaccharide carbohydrates. Amino acids in addition to glucose were shown to be one of the enhancing factors for obtaining very high populations of Chiloplacus lentus (Maupas). Deletion of one or the other group of amino acids from media produced fewer nematodes in comparison to those supplemented with almost all the amino acids. Glucose, erythrose, fructose, raffinose, ribose, mannose and trehalose were found to be very suitable supplements. However, 3% glucose was proved highly favourable for the development of the highest population of C. lentus. Amino acids in combination with sugars, supplemented to culture media produced still higher populations of C. lentus.
