The investigation carried out showed that the activity of tryptophan decarboxylase in roots or susceptible potatoes after their invasion by H. rostochiensis larvae generally increased about two times as compared with healthy roots, whereas it did not change distinctly in roots of resistant plants. The value of pH and kind of enzyme cofactor influenced the activity. The possible role of tryptophan decarboxylation in plant tissue response to H. rostochiensis is discussed.
