Specimens of males reported in the literature as Heterodera trifolii were obtained and studied. The only true H. tri f olii males appear to be those collected by Norton from a population reared from a single H. trifolii cyst; they are male intersexes. The other males reported as being H. trifolii differ morphologically from these intersexes and are considered to belong to unidentified, contaminating species. Male-producing populations from carnations and clover, observed by Cuany and Oostenbrink respectively, are undescribed species.
