Meloidogyne oryzae n. sp. is described from rice. It is distinguished by the second-stage larvae 500-615 μm long. It differs from its closest relative M. graminicola by longer second-stage larvae and males with longer stylets, by the dilated rectum in second-stage larvae, and by the more clearly offset lip region in females. It reproduces on rice, Fimbristylis-grass, wheat, tomato and potato, but not on maize, cotton, peanut, sweet pepper, sweet potato, and water melon.
