Cinnamic acid, catechol and salicylic acid when applied as soil drench, root treatment, pre-inoculation and post-inoculation foliar spray, imparted partial resistance in susceptible tomato plants against Meloidogyne javanica. In such treated plants few larvae could penetrate roots with less number of galls. The total phenol content in roots of susceptible tomato plants sprayed with the chemicals, was equal to phenolic content of a resistant variety 'Nematex'. Exposure of M. javanica females to the chemicals significantly reduced their egg discharge, larval hatch and suppressed motility of larvae.
