The wilt pathogen of the tomato, F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici is not pathogenic to cucumber in the absence of nematodes, but if cucumber plants are simultaneously attacked by root knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita) and F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici wilt symptoms develop. This confirms the results of Hirano & Kawamura (1971) on the cultivars of the GDR cucumber selections that we used. No effect of F.oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum was found on the tomato cultivars tested. The possible causes that led to our results differing from those of other authors are discussed.
