Measures of association between nematode species are often based on survey data where the number of samples is large and the number of pairwise occurrences between species is very small. Little is known about the statistical properties of measures of association under these circumstances. In this study an assessment was made of the performance of nine measures of association on simulated survey data typical of three distinct types of nematode species association. The simple matching, Jaccard, Czekanowski. Ochiai, Mozley and log-odds ratio all performed well in terms of bias and coefficient of variation.
