Two slow sand filter beds were sampled for ncmatodes; one bed received raw lake water, the other water which had been treated with ozone to reduce water colour. The nematode community in both beds was dominated by a Tobrilus sp., but numbers were significantly reduced in the bed receiving ozonatcd water. This effect was apparent in samples from the surface of the filter and at >1 cm depth.
