image of Review of Socialist Law

On 6 July 1982, the Polish Parliament passed a new law (exceptional by the standards of a socialist state) that allowed foreign citizens and firms to set up their operations in Poland. It quickly became known as the Law of 6 July and provided a basis for one of the most stunning economic developments in the post-war history of Poland. Foreign private firms along with Polish private firms were supposed to improve the situation on the consumer market, thus easing the crisis. To facilitate their operation, a new legal framework has been set up. In this article, we would like to present most of the regulations relevant to the activities of foreign private firms as well as to comment on certain factors that facilitated the formation of these firms in Poland.
