image of Insect Systematics & Evolution

The author identified the Tenebrionids (Coleoptera) collected in I962 by Dr. K. Lindberg in Afghanistan. The material contained 85 taxa (species and subspecies). Two are new to Afghanistan (Gnathosia jacobsoni, Pisterotarsa gigantea) while 8 species and 4 subspecies are here described for the first time (Gnathosia brincki, Microdera charpentieri, Adesmia jugalis septentrionalis, Lasiostola bendamira, L. linnei, Thriptera dubia, Pachyscelis klapperichi imitata, Pimelia semenovi saroubiana, Platynoscelis subalpestris, P. lindbergi, Dendarus transcaspicus afghanicus and Luprops afghanicus). A new subspecies of Dendarus transcaspicus is described from Transcaspia. The differences between Trachyderma christophi, Thryptera freyi, T. gracillima and T. dubia sp. nov. are clarified and a key to the Afghanistanian species of the subgenus Platynoscelis s. str. is given, establishing changes in the status of Trichomyatis cylindrica, T. rectangularis, T. hirtipennis and T. ovipennis by assigning these species to genus Platynoscelis.
