Cylindrodesmus laniger Schubart, 1944 is recorded from Tanzania. The synonymies Cylindrodesmus Pocock, 1889=Hypsoporus Loomis, 1969 and C. laniger=C. palmyrae Chamberlin, 1954=Inodesmus globulosus Loomis, 1964, are established. C. laniger is now on record from Brazil, Panama, Tanzania, and Palmyra Island. This wide distribution may be due to human transport and/or parthenogenesis (males are extremely rare).
