Stayella, the first ovoviviparous blattellid genus reported, is described. The following 8 species, 4 of which were previously in the genus Symploce, are included in this taxon: bimaculata (Gerstaecker) (type-species; new synonyms = S. massaica Princis and S. backlundi Princis), medleri (Kumar), cinnamomea (Gerstaecker), rohdei (Shelford) (new synonym = S. umbrina Princis), mckittrickae sp.n., abnormalis sp.n., schmitzi sp.n., and enghoffi sp.n. The various known species are redescribed, and a key to the males is given. The genus is restricted to Africa.
