The larva and female are described and the male and pupa redescribed of Stilocladius montanus Rossaro, 1979. The species is compared with Stilocladius clinopecten Sæther, 1982. S. montanus is considered relatively plesiomorphic in the genus because of the presence of setae on wing squama, moderately curved Cu1 and normal hind tibial comb. The generic description is emended; some characters, such as the absence of setae on wing squama, strongly curved Cu1 and very oblique hind tibial comb, have only specific value. The genus is well defined by one autapomorphy, viz. the narrowed anal point. Stilocladius is included in the Parakiefferiella group of Sæther (1983) because of the shape of the gonostylus, pupal anal lobes, bulb on spermathecal ducts and thread-like terminal antennal segment. Notes on the ecology and distribution of S. montanus are given.
