image of Insect Systematics & Evolution

The species of the genus Loboptera Brunner v. W. of Spain are revised. Five new species and a new subspecies are described: L. andalusica, L. barbarae, L. delafrontera, L. jensi, L. juergeni, and L. decipiens nevadensis. L. canariensis Chopard, so far only known from the Canaries, is newly recorded from Spain (incl. Balearic Is), and Corsica. With the two species already known, L. decipiens (Germar) and L. hispanica Harz, a total of eight species are found in Spain. The relevant structures for the discrimination of the species - supraanal plate and subgenital plate, paraproct and phallomere structures in the males, valves with associated sclerites and spermathecae in females - are described and depicted for all species. An identification key to the Spanish species is also given.
