ABSTRACT Hindgut epithelial cells of the oak-woodland pillbug Armadillo officinalis (Isopoda: Oniscidea: Armadillidae), were studied for their ATPase activity. The products of the enzymatic activity were localized in the membranous infoldings of the hindgut cells. It was concluded that Na+, K+-ATPase was probably present in these cells. The significance of these findings for the water balance of these animals is discussed.
