Three new isopod species, Palaega furcillanatis, Archaeoniscus italiensis and Sphaeroma montefallanoense, and an occurrence of the tanaidacean Niveotanais brunnensis Polz, 2005, are described from the Jurassic Plattenkalk of Monte Fallano, Italy. Such a high-diversity, isopod assemblage in the context of the Triassic and Jurassic occurrence of later cosmopolitan taxa, and high diversity of European Jurassic isopods, suggests that isopod taxa whose geographic range was extensive in the Cretaceous, could have been endemic to the Tethys of Europe before the Cretaceous. Occurrence of a tanaidacean in the Monte Fallano Plattenkalk is significant, because it suggests that bottom water conditions were consistently dysoxic at the time of deposition. This second occurrence of N. brunnensis suggests that the niveotanaids represent the survival of the primarily Paleozoic anthracocaridomorphs into the Mesozoic.
