A review of Halimede de Haan, 1835, divides this xanthoid genus into three species: H. fragifer de Haan, 1835, H. ochtodes (Herbst, 1783), and H. tyche (Herbst, 1801). The species are redescribed and illustrated, and a key is provided. A specimen of H. tyche collected off the coast of Israel is the first record of this genus from the Mediterranean.
