ABSTRACT The new bathypelagic caridean shrimp species Acanthephyra chacei is distinguished from other Acanthephyra by its membranous integument; its dorsally carinate carapace, lacking a cervical groove; and abdominal somites III through VI dorsally carinate, each ending in a spine. It was found mainly in transitional waters of the northeastern Pacific at depths greater than 1,500 m.
