Using archival documents, the author of this article reconstructed the biography of Prince Dmitry Petrovich Shovel-Pozharsky, a relative of the Russian national hero, Prince Dmitry Pozharsky. That enabled him to overcome historiographical confusion concerning the lives of both men, each of whom served as a provincial governor during the Time of Troubles. The author also came to the remarkable conclusion that there may still be confusion concerning the true identity of the Prince Pozharsky whose remains were excavated in 1851.
