title RIASSUNTO /title

Il saggio discute la teoria della continuit nei termini in cui stata esposta da J. H. Randall in relazione alle opere di Zabarella e di Galileo. Si esamina e si respinge inoltre lo statuto privilegiato assegnato da alcuni storici della scienza ai "problemi metodologici". Notevoli differenze tra il De rebus naturalibus e i "Moderni" vengono messe in evidenza attraverso l'analisi di concetti come quelli di "natura e mondo", "legge naturale e ordine naturale", "oggetti artificiali" ed "esperimenti artificiali" (o "costruiti"). Su queste basi, Bacone e Galileo (ma anche Descartes e Mersenne) svilupparono una nuova immagine della scienza contrapposta polemicamente all'immagine aristotelica di un sapere scientifico "iperinclusivo".
