La crescita di professionalit nella scienza pu essere messa in rapporto sia all'educazione scientifica sia all'impegno professionale dello scienziato. Un'indagine sulle carriere di un certo numero di scienziati dei secoli XV e XVI mostra che l'educazione universitaria era assai diffusa e che non mancavano impieghi per gli scienziati dentro e fuori dell'universit. Ci dimostra come la scienza rinascimentale era ormai in grado di trovare uno sbocco nell'applicazione a fini pratici.
