Cet article est le premier d'une srie o l'on prsentera et discutera des documents antrieurs 1640, provenant de bibliothques et d'archives romaines. On y exprime des ractions aux thses galilennes ou sur la nouvelle science. Les 6 documents prsents ici, qui proviennent tous de milieu jsuite, remontent aux annes 1611-1616 (ou 1618). On y voit que les nouveauts galilennes provoqurent l'intrieur de la Compagnie de Jsus un dbat plus immdiat et un rejet moins compact qu'on le croit traditionnellement.
