Abstract As The Crustacean Society completes its thirtieeth year of existence, it is time to reflect and appropriately commemorate this anniversary with an appreciation of Raymond B. Manning. This memorial augments the brief biographical sketch presented by Lemaitre and Reed (2000). On the day this issue of Journal of Crustacean Biology is being published, 11 October 2009, Ray would have been 75 and undoubly would have been proud of what the society has achieved in just three decades.
